This route takes you from the base of the majestic Salkantay snow-capped mountain (6,271 m) through high-altitude passes, tropical valleys, and finally to the awe-inspiring Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. The program includes camping, meals, horses, guides, and entrance tickets. An unforgettable trek awaits!
Itinerary
This program includes 3 days of trekking through highland and jungle landscapes, ending with a guided tour in Machu Picchu. One of the best treks in South America, known for its raw beauty and powerful energy.
Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa – Humantay Lake – Sky Camp
- 4:30 AM: Pick-up from your hotel and drive to Mollepata (breakfast stop).
- Continue to Soraypampa (3,900 m), the starting point of the trek.
- Ascend to Humantay Lake (4,200 m) – optional hike with turquoise views.
- Return to camp for lunch and relax at Sky Camp with panoramic views of Salkantay Mountain.
- Night: Dinner and overnight at Sky Domes under the stars.
Day 2: Soraypampa – Salkantay Pass – Chaullay – Andean Jungle Lodge
- Wake up early with coca tea. Start the hike to Salkantay Pass (4,630 m).
- Cross the highest point with amazing glacier views.
- Descend through cloud forest to Huayracmachay and have lunch.
- Continue to Chaullay (2,900 m) and transfer to Jungle Lodge in Lucmabamba.
- Night: Dinner and rest at Andean Jungle Lodge.
Day 3: Jungle Coffee Tour – Llactapata – Hydroelectric – Aguas Calientes
- Enjoy a short tour of a local organic coffee farm in Lucmabamba.
- Begin hike to Llactapata ruins (2,700 m) with Machu Picchu views from a unique angle.
- Descend to Hidroelectrica for lunch and continue walking to Aguas Calientes (3 hrs).
- Night: Dinner and overnight at hotel in Aguas Calientes.
Day 4: Machu Picchu – Return to Cusco
- 5:30 AM: Bus up to Machu Picchu entrance.
- 6:00 AM – 8:00 AM: Guided tour of the citadel: Main Plaza, Temple of the Sun, Intihuatana, and more.
- Free time to explore or hike to Sun Gate.
- Return by bus to Aguas Calientes, then take train to Ollantaytambo and transfer to Cusco.
