Itinerary
This alternative route offers a scenic and adventurous approach to Machu Picchu, combining bus travel, jungle hiking, and an overnight stay in Aguas Calientes. It’s a great way to reduce travel costs and experience the region differently.
Day 1: Cusco – Hidroeléctrica – Aguas Calientes
- 7:00 AM: Pick-up from your hotel in Cusco. Start the journey in a comfortable tourist vehicle, heading through the Sacred Valley.
- 12:30 PM: Arrival in Santa Teresa. Stop for lunch (included).
- 1:30 PM: Continue to Hidroeléctrica. From here, begin the trek to Aguas Calientes (approx. 3 hours walk along the railway).
- 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM: Arrival in Aguas Calientes and check-in at the hotel. Free time to explore the town or visit the thermal baths (optional).
- 7:00 PM: Dinner at a local restaurant and briefing with your guide for the next day.
Day 2: Machu Picchu – Hidroeléctrica – Cusco
- 4:30 AM: Early wake-up and hike up to Machu Picchu (approx. 1.5–2 hours uphill). Optionally, take a bus (not included).
- 6:00 AM – 8:00 AM: Guided tour of Machu Picchu’s most important sectors: temples, plazas, viewpoints, and sacred areas.
- 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM: Free time to explore, take photos, or rest.
- 10:30 AM: Return hike to Hidroeléctrica.
- 2:30 PM: Return trip by car to Cusco.
- 9:30 PM: Estimated arrival at your hotel in Cusco.
